Riesenrad (The Giant Ferris Wheel) is the centerpiece of “Wiener Prater”. Prater is the name for both a large, forested Viennese recreation area as well as for a traditional amusement park.

Until comprehensive reconstruction of the area in 2009, there has been a small cafe at this place. In the James Bond cinema movie The Living Daylights, the manipulated sliding door of that cafe kills Bonds local colleague.
Celine and Jesse (Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke) take an evening ride in one of the gondolas and kiss here for the first time in the cinema movie “Before Sunrise”.
Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) waits for his friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles) at the Giant Ferris Wheel in the cinema movie “The Third Man“, 1949. Following, Holly and Harry have their final conversation in one of the gondolas. Visit here the Third Man Museum in Vienna.
